Keep sitemap.xml for search engines. llms.txt does not take that role.
Search engines discover URLs from the sitemap and from links on the site. llms.txt is an extra, short index. Publishing it does not remove the need for a healthy sitemap.
Keep both
- Do not delete sitemap.xml
- Do not redirect sitemap.xml to llms.txt
- Do let LLMs TXT check that the sitemap responds
- Do use llms.txt as a curated list, not as the full URL set
If a sitemap URL fails, fix it in Shopify. The next LLMs TXT task will check it again.
